KINGPIN 101: Patching the Game

Ok, so you've completely installed Kingpin onto your hard drive.  The location of the game files on your PC is:
C:\Program Files\Kingpin\
At this point you should go take a look at the setup and configuration of these files. Your knowledge of them will be a big help later on when we start installing some custom files.  To get there:

  • Double click on MY COMPUTER
  • Double click on the C DRIVE
  • Double click on PROGRAM FILES and then
  • Double click on KINGPIN
Once you get there, it should look something like this:

Now, of course, you won't have as many folders as shown above (yet!), but you WILL have at least some of these. Take a good look at your own KP folder. The picture above shows you what your Kingpin folder will look like after you have successfully installed several crucial files including the patch we are about to discuss.
As you know, Kingpin was (like most games) released with a few bugs.  Xatrix took care of most of these issues and released their last "official" patch called "v1.20".  Even if you never plan on setting foot in the online multiplayer servers, you will still need to at least install the v1.20 patch to get the maximum enjoyment out of the game.  If you are going to play online, however, then you will want to grab the most up-to-date patch called "v1.21".  Although not "officially" supported, v1.21 is time tested and player approved.    Either way you go, v1.20 can be obtained HERE and v1.21 (the recommended one) can be obtained HERE.  Download one of these and save them to your desktop.  Once it has completely downloaded:
  • Double click the Patch Icon on your desktop and a dialogue box will pop up.

It will tell you to type the destination of your Kingpin folder.  You will type it in as shown:

  • And then press "Unzip".
Voila!  Easy Money :)  If you have done this correctly, your Kingpin folder should have the "patch12" Text Document as shown above in the larger picture.  Also, you should now be able to play on some online Kingpin servers.  BUT WAIT!  You are going to need at least one more crucial file called the Monkey Mod to be able to play on most servers, and you will want to have some additional user made files installed to fully appreciate Kingpin.  Click HERE to get to INSTALLING THE MONKEY MOD.  Click HERE to get back home.
